NO. NO NO NONO AND HERE’S WHY: things like racism and sexism are literally so ingrained into our culture that we could literally be doing something that we think is nice and STILL perpetuate hate or stereotypes so it is VERY important to understand what is racist/ableist/sexist/transphobic/whatever else. Not to mention, the hate isn’t the same. “I hate black people” gets people KILLED. daily. all the damn time. “I hate white people” hurts some feelings and that’s pretty much it. I really REALLY don’t trust anyone who pulls the “we’re all human~” bullshit because they’re usually some of the most oppressive people because they refuse to recognize their own oppression and understand that there are tiers of inequality that need to be overcome. Pretending everyone is treated equal in today’s society isn’t going to do diddly squat except erase very pertinent issues.

Yes. So much yes. That’s exactly what has bugged me about the above comic. Because really, there a difference between interpersonal sexism/racism (which really just hurts feelings of those with privilege) and institutional sexism/racism (which does get people killed and is incredibly ingrained into society).

Leaving my family is always one of the hardest things in my life. Yesterday was my sister’s graduation and I’m back on a bus to Portland, less than 48hrs of leaving. I mean, I kind of have to because I need to be back at my internship tomorrow but still. It was really hard saying goodbye.
